“Shipping Gold” originally appeared on a split LP with Xela (aka John Twells) via Barge Recordings on March 25, 2008. Chronologically, it was released after the “Wavering on the Cresting Heft” full length album (released in 2007 via Conspiracy) and MGR’s 42-minute collaborative piece with Destructo Swarmbots (titled “Amor En El Aire”) on the “Amigos De La Guitarra” album, released via Neurot Recordings later in 2008.

“Shipping Gold” was recorded and mixed in August 2007 by Alap Momin at Deadverse Studios and mastered by Josh Bonati. Spanning over 16 minutes in length, the song complements the overall feel and approach present on “Wavering on the Cresting Heft,” with both works naturally harkening the distinctive guitar work MGR’s Mike Gallagher crafted on previous and concurrent ISIS albums. “Shipping Gold” also portended the purely cinematic output that would comprise the “22nd Of May” soundtrack, issued just a couple of years later.

Speaking of “22nd of May,” this version of “Rise” is a concept for the overall theme of the much longer and realized version that appeared on the film’s soundtrack. A 13-second cut of this track originally appeared on “(Triskaidekaphobia) 13,000.00 Milliseconds,” a compilation released on August 4, 2008 via Ratskin Records that featured 215 artists (including Thrones, The White Mice, I Am Spoonbender, and To Live And Shave In L.A.) ALL peforming 13-second songs. For the 2023 reissue, Gallagher pulled up the original session and expanded it out to more than DOUBLE the length (clocking in now at just over 30 seconds). This version was edited and mastered over at Pax Aeternum by Brent Eyestone.
